We are recruiting for a People Assistant (Recruitment and Learning & Development)

About Nesta
We are Nesta, the UK’s innovation agency for social good. We design, test and scale solutions to society’s biggest problems. Our three missions are to give every child a fair start, help people live healthy lives, and create a sustainable future where the economy works for both people and the planet.

For over 20 years, we have worked to support, encourage and inspire innovation. We work in three roles: as an innovation partner working with frontline organisations to design and test new solutions, as a venture builder supporting new and early stage businesses, and as a system shaper creating the conditions for innovation.

Harnessing the rigour of science and the creativity of design, we work relentlessly to change millions of lives for the better. Find out more at nesta.org.uk

How will this role contribute to Nesta’s success?
Nesta’s People Assistant (Recruitment and Learning & Development) will provide level support to the Recruitment Manager and Learning & Development (L&D) Manager. This is a brand new role and the successful candidate will work alongside our generalist People Assistant (HR). People Assistants deliver a people-centred, professional service to internal and external stakeholders and are responsible for administering key employee lifecycle processes and providing comprehensive first line advice to our people. This is a great role to build foundational skills in recruitment and learning & development.

The Role
As the People Assistant (Recruitment and Learning & Development), you will report into the Recruitment Manager. You will split your time across talent acquisition and learning & development activities. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Recruitment Manager with all campaign activities, such as posting job ads and scheduling and coordinating interviews;
  • Acting as the first point of contact, responding to potential applicant enquiries and managing the recruitment email inbox;
  • Conducting all pre-employment checks and administration (e.g. references, right to work checks, preparing contracts, etc);
  • Supporting the Recruitment Manager and L&D Manager to redesign the onboarding process, and administering this process from end-to-end to make our new joiners feel welcomed (e.g. coordinating line managers, IT, Building Management and other internal teams);
  • Coordinating Nestling In, Nesta’s induction event for new joiners, from end-to-end (e.g. scheduling dates, booking meeting rooms, coordinating facilitators and guest speakers, managing comms and participant lists, and sourcing event materials and catering);
  • Supporting the L&D Manager to deliver learning experiences, such as liaising with suppliers, processing contracts and invoices, coordinating face-to-face and virtual events, and managing comms and participant lists;
  • Supporting the L&D Manager to promote FutureLearn internally (our new e-learning platform) and monitor usage data.
  • Administering and monitoring L&D feedback forms.
  • Maintaining the HRIS system and ensuring employee details are accurate (as well as their employee development and learning/training are up-to-date);
  • Providing general administrative support to the Recruitment Manager and L&D Manager, and fellow People team colleagues as required;
  • Cooperating with the People Assistant (HR) to complete other People team related tasks.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in a People/HR team.
  • Experience administering HRIS systems.
  • Experience coordinating internal events.
  • Experience communicating appropriately and confidentially with a wide range of people.
  • A customer-centred and positive approach to stakeholder management.
  • A focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise your workload, manage time effectively and work to deadlines.
  • A self-directed, learner mindset who can problem solve and balance taking direction with self-autonomy.
  • We don’t expect you to have full knowledge of these systems, but in the People Team we use: hibob, Google Suite apps, Slack, BeApplied, Wordpress.

At Nesta, we believe that a diverse workforce leads to an organisation that is more innovative, more creative and gets better results.

We want our workforce to represent the diversity of the people and communities we serve. We also want our workplace to be one where different experiences, expertise and perspectives are valued, and where everyone is encouraged to grow and develop.
