Are you ambitious and inclusive, driven to deliver sustainable results through radical thinking?

These are characteristics we value deeply at Office for National Statistics (ONS), and we would love to have you on board in our People and Business Services (PBS) group.

The Deputy Director for Strategic Resourcing role is focused on answering the big question every organisation faces: how to bring people into a great organisation, with the skills and attitude we need both for now and in the future?

You will be responsible for moving our strategic resourcing framework from a concept into a working and embedded model.

You will bring together and develop teams so that sustainable prioritisation, delivery, and governance mechanisms are in place, and Strategic Resourcing becomes how we operate. These teams will be made up of people who report directly to you, and cross functional teams across the business.

Job description

You will be a thought leader for ONS and keep the Strategic Resourcing Framework current and fit for purpose.

You will enhance our approach to attracting people and ensure this is sustainable by:

• Leading the recruitment team to excel in the standard of service they offer, with evidence to back this up.

• Building up our Talent Acquisition (TA) function, taking them from a small established team to a market leading TA function.

• Leading on building out future Early Talent pipelines, beyond apprentices and sandwich placements - this might include career pivots, interns, experience projects, returners and more.

• Setting the direction and establishing processes to ensure ONS maximises opportunities for cross-sector loans and secondments.

Working across teams and business areas, you will also:

• Be a member of the senior leadership team, designing and driving the people agenda with your PBS colleagues, for ONS and the broader Civil Service.

• Build a robust, agile deployment model which will enable us to allocate our people to work of the highest priority.

• Strengthen ONS’s reputation for being open and collaborative and act as a leader for joined up working across the Civil Service. This will include strengthening our presence and reputation in the first truly cross-departmental government recruitment hub where we are the gold standard in our work for the Government Statistical Service.

In return we offer you:

  • Hybrid working in an organisation voted top in the UK for work-life balance
  • A market leading pension scheme - our employer contribution rate is around 27%
  • A choice of working patterns *for every role* full-time, part-time, job-share
  • Maternity, adoption or shared parental leave of 26 weeks full pay (subject to qualifying criteria)
  • Employee Assistance Programmes
  • Diversity Network Groups
  • Mental Health Allies
  • Civil Service Sports and Social club
  • Generous holiday allowance – 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 days after 5 years service in addition to 9 public holidays.

Closing date: 11:55 pm on 16 June 2022.
