The ScreenSkills Apprenticeship Programme seeks to trial and establish a new apprenticeship route into physical production for film and TV, particularly for traditionally freelance roles in key skills shortage areas. ScreenSkills is working in partnership with very high-profile production companies and studios, such as Netflix, Warner Media, Prime Video, Sky (with APX Content Ventures), Banijay UK and Lime Pictures.

The HR Advisor will report to the HR Manager and work with the wider HR team. They will be responsible for advising and supporting the Programme and Cohort Leads with the apprenticeship program.

They will be responsible for the smooth running and administration of the day-to-day employee queries mainly for the apprenticeship program but will be expected to provide support to the wider team with recruitment and other HR related matters.

The successful candidate will be an experienced, proactive, resilient individual who is approachable, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills as they will be working with Industry partners and ScreenSkills.

Key responsibilities:

  • Proactively provide professional HR advice, support and guidance to the managers and staff on all HR queries, including all aspects of HR policy and procedures and current employment law/legislation
  • With the HR Advisor, provide support with recruitment to attract and recruit appropriate candidates
  • Experience of drafting and issuing terms and conditions of service and understanding the difference between employees and associates (sole traders, personal service companies)
  • Ensure HR files have all the required paperwork including right to work in the UK
  • Support the on boarding process for the apprentices in alignment/collaboration with ScreenSkills policies and procedures
  • Agree and set up probationary review meetings for new starters, in accordance with probationary policy. Review completed probationary forms and issue confirmation letters
  • Establish and develop relationships with managers and key contacts to understand and advise on people management issues
  • Provide advice and guidance on employment issues such as performance management and employee relations issues
  • Sickness absence, ensure accurate recording of all sick absence on HRIS (Cascade), arrange return to work interviews, upload all documentation onto Cascade. Monitor patterns refer where necessary
  • Manage and process the monthly overtime, holiday pay and timesheets for the apprentices ensuring they are submitted in a timely manner for payroll
  • An understanding of IR35 and its application  
  • Assist the HR Manager with new policies/procedures
  • Any other duties which are commensurate with role

Essential Skills:

  • CIPD qualified or equivalent experience gained within a busy HR Department
  • Experience of providing generalist advice
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Flexible & Adaptable
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentially
  • Strong MS Office skills
