We were the first Trust in England to provide joined-up hospital and community care with social care, and we continue to work with our partners to improve the way we deliver safe, high-quality health and social care. Serving a resident population of 286,000 people, this can increase by up to 100,000 in holiday periods, and out 6,500 staff deliver outstanding care from our main acute hospital, Torbay Hospital, as well as a further five community hospitals.

We have been given a share of £3.7 billion government funding for a new hospital development, and this investment will drive a one in a lifetime programme of service transformation. We are a key member of the Devon health and care system, and our vision and strategy tie closely into this, using what we have learnt to continue to improve our services for patients.

Our Chief People Officer role is a critical one for our Trust, reporting to the Chief Executive as a voting member of our board. Responsible for the delivery of our strategy and the development and implementation of our ambitious people and workforce strategy, we want to become a national exemplar for focused and compassionate people practices, with an innovative approach to develop a high performing, inclusive and empowering culture. We recognise our role as an anchor institution for the local community, and the development of effective partnerships and collaborations with both local community groups as well as other parts of the health and care system will be critical for success.

We are looking for a HR leader with a track record of driving effective and long-lasting change through organisations, with an understanding of how to develop and implement workforce strategies. With experience of working at or close to board level, we need someone with the ability to build effective system partnerships to drive change, and with experience of working in a large and complex organisation. We are open to a breadth of backgrounds and experience for this role and would welcome those who feel their values and drive to innovate match our own.
