Executive Director of People

Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation exists to help shape a healthier society. We do this by getting behind people and great ideas, investing in initiatives that can help to redress some of the stark health inequalities that exist in a world-city such as London. As the custodian of one of the largest charitable endowments in the UK we have the capacity to make a real difference to people’s lives. In 2020/21 we funded £29m of charitable causes and also raised almost £10m in donations and gifts to support NHS patients and staff. It’s vital work and demand has never been greater. That’s why, having trebled in size to a staff group of 130 people, this is such an important appointment.

This is a new role in our organisation, reporting directly to our CEO, so there is considerable scope for you to make your mark in developing our vision, strategy and culture. You’ll take the lead in developing our people strategy, ensuring that we can attract the very best people to work here, and that we make the most of the potential and talent that people offer. And you’ll shape our growing HR team (currently 3 FTE) to support the organisation to excel in what we do.

In an organisation of our size, you can expect to be close to the detail as well as working in a strategic capacity. It’s an opportunity that will suit a proven HR leader who can add value across the full range of people issues including: culture-building, learning & development and organisational design. We place Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the very centre of our work and you should be able to offer an expert appreciation of how to embed this into organisational practice and culture.

We’re looking for an accomplished HR professional, knowledgeable in employment practice and law, who can bring rigour and innovation to our people function.  Our ambition to drive more equitable health underpins everything we do.  This is your opportunity to make a profound impact ensuring our people are set up for success in achieving this mission.

Our organisation is keen to have a leadership team representative of the communities we serve and actively encourage applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds. Flexibility is supported and we will consider applicants looking for a 4 or 5 day working week to take up this directorship.
