Introduction

The House of Lords Administration employs c670 staff, providing the administrative and logistical support for the House of Lords to work as an effective second chamber of Parliament. 

Supporting our colleagues, the Administration has a HR team who provide a full HR service focused on ensuring we strengthen our capacity, capability, and culture to support the vital work of the Lords.

Within the team a maternity-cover vacancy has arisen to provide Executive Assistant support to the HR and Deputy HR Directors, helping to ensure a high-quality support service is provided to all. 

The Role

The purpose of the role is to support the HR Director and Deputy Director in the efficient and effective execution of their roles as Head of Office and as a member of the Lords Management Board and Senior Leadership Team.

This includes the triaging and drafting/responding to correspondence; overseeing the management of their complex diaries; liaising with colleagues throughout the House including HR colleagues, Management Board Members, Heads of Offices, Senior Leaders in the House of Commons and Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS); and liaising with external stakeholders and partners on their behalf.

Skills and Experience

  • Effective Diary Management Skills: A strong track record of supporting senior leaders, including managing a complex diary, triaging, and managing emails and drafting documents and correspondence.
  • Tact and Discretion: Demonstrable ability to exercise tact and discretion when dealing with confidential matters for a senior leader.
  • Building Working Relationships: Proven ability to network, build trust, work together with, and communicate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Initiative & Working Under Pressure: A high level of initiative and the ability to manage conflicting priorities under pressure, reprioritising and delegating where necessary.
  • Problem Solving: Experience identifying and resolving problems independently and proactively, as well as designing and improving administrative processes.
  • Drafting Skills: Excellent note taking and drafting skills
