Head of HR

Careers4Change is delighted to be working with a fantastic social business, Fair Finance, to identify an experienced HR professional to support them with their people strategy and build the team as they plan for substantial growth over the coming months. 

Job title: Head of HR

Location: Hybrid working with 3 days in the office per week, with some flexibility

Reporting To: Chief Finance Officer and working closely with CEO

Contract: Permanent, minimum 4 days a week

Salary: £50,000

Role Purpose:

We are looking for a driven and capable HR Professional with proven strong recruitment and leadership skills, to provide the full range of HR support from an operational and strategic perspective to an employee group of approximately 40.

Reporting to the CFO and working closely with the CEO, this is a standalone HR role responsible for owning, coordinating, and implementing all operational HR activities associated with the employee lifecycle including but not limited to: recruitment, employee engagement, performance management, employee relations, communications, training and development and policy adherence matters.

You will work closely with all of the Executive Team and be a key part of the team in planning our growth and expansion plans.

The last few years of the pandemic and the Cost-of-Living crisis have really highlighted the importance of our work, and as such we are embarking on an ambitious program of growth and expansion to meet the challenges facing some of the poorest and most excluded in the coming years. 

We know this growth will see an increase in our team, management structure and change the way we work. Before we start this growth journey, we want to recruit a Head of HR who can help shape our people strategy, build a team and plan for growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage and oversee the full recruitment cycle from: engaging with business leads, developing job descriptions, shortlisting, managing the interview process and leading the onboarding of new staff

Manage, update and administer all contractual documents to new and existing staff, as well as managing the leavers process.

Maximise the use of technology available to drive best practice and streamline process

Provide HR policy guidance and help the resolution of employee relations issues, working with Fair Finance’s external legal and HR advisors for technical support as required.

Oversee a culture of staff engagement and wellbeing; working with the executive team and CEO to lead improvement and ensure retention of staff.

Manage staff attendance and promote wellbeing through training, external support and internal initiatives.

Support Business Heads in managing performance reviews and working with them to develop appropriate training and workforce planning

Work closely with the executive team to ensure the business is compliant with employment laws and regulations

Build a team with a continuous improvement ethos to support the needs of a growing business

Regularly meet and work closely with all Business Leaders as well as report to the Executive Team and occasionally the Board Sub Committee of Fair Finance dealing with HR and People issues.

Monitor and manage HR expenditure , ensuring that Fair Finance obtains best value for its processes and services.

Responsible for Health & Safety

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong leadership and analytical skills
  • At least 5 years experience at HR Manager or Advisor level
  • Experience of developing the employee experience of HR
  • Minimum 5 years experience of recruitment
  • Comfort in working with Senior Managers, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Demonstrate integrity and diligence in your methods and decisions
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of working with HR systems and databases
  • Already gained or be working towards your CIPD qualification
  • Experience of working in a start up or a business that has gone through rapid change would be an advantage
  • Experience in designing and delivering training interventions would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of compensation practices and job and salary categorisation would be an advantage
  • Up to date knowledge of UK employment law
