Delivering the ‘Art of the Possible’ is our people mission. We need an individual who has a record of success in leading HR functions, including a background in employee relations; as well as an understanding and exposure in delivering the key components of an effective people strategy. Fundamentally we need someone who can lead from the front, elegantly challenge the status quo, and deliver ‘Good Value’ for the Council.

You will join us at an exciting time, with not only this post (following retirement) but also the recruitment of a new Head of Payroll, Pensions and People Administration, due to the insourcing of the function in April 2024.

Our team

You will manage a team of circa. 50 FTE, across HR, Talent, Resourcing, Leadership and EDI, providing a service to a workforce (including Schools) of up to 10,500 people. The role sits as part of the ‘people’ service: business support, health & safety, payroll, and pensions, which fits within the wider leadership team of the Resources Directorate. You will work and collaborate with senior colleagues from finance, property, IT, transformation, legal and commercial, as well of course our other Directorates. The post is be based in Lincoln and has the benefits of hybrid working.

Who are we looking for?

The usual experience, education, knowledge and technical ‘know how’ for a post at this level are all pre-requisites; equally important is the ability to lead, manage, challenge, and inspire your team with the right culture and approach to our customers. Likewise, is the ability to work constructively with stakeholders, like, resources colleagues, corporate leaders, headteachers and council members, under the umbrella that we are ‘One Council’.

Ask yourself

Are you capable of shaping and delivering the people strategy with an engaging, enquiring, collaborative approach? Do you also have a strong ambition, resilience, and appetite for change? Can you work with significant autonomy drawing on support as required?

Our offer

We are a forward thinking and progressive employer with lots to offer.

Along with a competitive salary you'll receive;

  • A Contributory pension
  • Comprehensive benefits package including excellent discount schemes and cycle to work
  • Sodexo Discounts and Benefits Scheme
  • Flexible working policies and access to first class wellbeing packages
  • Career progression opportunities
  • A generous leave entitlement with the option to buy more
