Scouts has been helping young people develop skills for life for over a century. Every single week, almost half a million people aged 4-25 enjoy developing teamwork, leadership and resilience – skills that have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers, to astronauts and Olympians. Everyone is welcome here: Scouts now includes over 102,000 girls, and since 2013 we’ve started hundreds of new sections in areas where we can make the most difference.

We know Scouts improves the life chances of young people, creates wellbeing for volunteers, and offers unique professional satisfaction to our staff. But if those benefits aren’t available to everyone, then we won’t realise our vision for a more equitable, level playing field across society. We need to serve every community across the UK, and making Scouts accessible to everyone really matters.

This role is all about giving us the capacity we need to do just that. Leading our small, expert EDI team, you’ll shape and deliver a class-leading programme of work, producing a clear strategy and practical resources, so that everyone in Scouts can play their part in this vital movement for change. We’ve laid strong foundations in the past few years, so you’ll have all the support you need to amplify and embed the team’s impact. You’ll be working closely with senior leaders – both volunteers and employees – to develop an approach of ‘applied inclusion’ across everything we do, and securing their support to ensure we realise Scouts’ huge potential throughout society.

We’re looking for a confident, credible and adaptable expert, who can influence colleagues to integrate EDI principles into their own spheres of accountability. With a track record of developing inclusive cultures, you’ll have a sophisticated understanding of how national organisations, with large volunteer cohorts, can achieve lasting change through internal advocacy. Resilience, optimism and a comprehensive repertoire of communication techniques are all essential, and strong candidates will additionally bring experience of programme management.
