Your new company

My client is a leading provider of highly skilled support and specialist engineering solutions to clients in the maritime industry. Based in the UK, the company has been established for decades, but the local business has been formed recently due to demand and is growing rapidly. To complement their team in Portsmouth, they are looking to appoint an experienced HR Officer (permanent, full-time).

Your new role

Reporting to an approachable HR and Finance Manager and with support from a friendly HR Officer based at another site, you will also work closely with an experienced Project Manager in Portsmouth on a daily basis. This HR / People generalist role will be responsible for supporting the full employee lifecycle, providing advice on a wide range of HR issues and ER related matters, and building strong relationships with key stakeholders.

Main responsibilities include:

* Act as a primary and first point of contact on-site, providing all aspects of generalist HR advice.
* Handle general departmental enquiries related to contracts, holidays, sickness, benefits, and right to work.
* Preparation of formal letters/contracts/ change of terms letters for new and existing employees.
* Manage employee relations casework throughout the employee lifecycle and provide guidance and advice on the relevant HR policies, practices, procedures, employment laws, and regulations.
* Maintain employee files accurately.
* Support the end-to-end recruitment process and assist with onboarding of new workers.
* Work closely with other departments.
* Promote equality, health, and safety, etc. within the company.
* Contribute to and lead on projects when required.
* Undertake other duties as and when required.

Due to the industry, this is an office-based role and does not offer hybrid / remote working. Working hours: 40 / week (including 30 minute lunch) with flexibility around start / finish times between Monday-Thursday and a 12pm finish on Fridays.

What you'll need to succeed

This varied HR generalist role will suit someone who is confident, adaptable and happy to work in a changeable, fast-paced working environment. This will suit someone who is comfortable with the autonomy of being an HR expert and lead locally, whilst having support from the wider HR team based outside the area.

You must have experience in an HR generalist role and preferably be CIPD qualified, with a good working knowledge of employment law and HR best practice. A willingness to exceed requirements, excellent communication skills both spoken and written and a keen attention to detail are also important. Strong IT skills across MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel are required too.
