Head of Learning & Development

Staffordshire Police

Location: Staffordshire

Salary: £67,437 to £76,101

Situated in the heart of the West Midlands, Staffordshire Police support and serve more than 1.1 million people, spanning from the rural moorlands to major urban areas such as Stoke-on-Trent, Tamworth, Cannock and Burton-upon-Trent.

We are a caring, collaborative and accountable police force with a clear commitment to establish and embed a safe and confident Staffordshire. The force has made significant progress in this journey and achieved a number of significant milestones.  However, there is more to do as we strive to deliver on our ambitions for the future as set out in our Policing Plan (2023-25). The entire Staffordshire Police family is firmly committed to our vision of a safe and confident Staffordshire. Secured by an outstanding local police service that is passionate about serving the public, caring for its people and working in partnership.

To further support and enhance our journey of transformation, we are now seeking a new Head of Learning & Development. As a core contributor to our vision of developing an exceptional workforce, you will lead a large and diverse team of staff and officers, responsible for a portfolio of learning and development, police training (PEQF), and organisational development. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels, senior leaders, regional and national colleagues and higher education partners to lead us in ensuring we develop a capable and confident workforce with the right skills and training to deliver an excellent service.

As part of the People & Organisational Development Senior Leadership Team, you will bring with you a strong background in the full life cycle of learning and development. Holding a strategic ‘big picture’ mentality to developing learning opportunities and career pathway plans for all levels of staff, you will be a naturally collaborative and innovative leader, with an astute ability to implement solutions that create an engaged, modern and empowered workforce.

We are therefore seeking a suitably qualified L&D professional, with a proven track record of working across a complex organisation, with a diverse and varied staff skillset. Delivering a fully budgeted and scrutinised delivery plan, alongside the ability to drive ‘best value’ from external relationships will be critical here, therefore your confidence within this space will be important.

Now is an exciting time to join our team, as this role holds a real opportunity to set the future direction for our service, bring your creative mindset to the table, and develop a high performing team that is seen as a trusted partner throughout Staffordshire Police.
