Director of People for the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals


This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Executive team at the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals and really make a positive difference to the lives of our staff and our patients.


The Royal London Hospital is an internationally renowned teaching hospital one of London’s leading trauma and emergency care and hyper-acute stroke centres. Our hospital is home to one of the largest children’s hospitals in the UK and London’s Air Ambulance and our dental hospital is a leading specialist for dental and oral health. At our Mile End Hospital site, we provide a range of outpatient and community-based services.


We are part of the Barts Health Group which is one of the largest Trust’s in the country with over 7,000 staff employed at the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals alone. As well as leading the delivery of our Group People Strategy at our hospitals, you will also work with your Executive team colleagues to drive the priorities and improvements that we have identified as important to our staff locally.

Who are we looking for? We need a Director of People who enjoys the challenge of a fast-paced environment and is able to lead our strategic people agenda as well as responding to daily operational needs and demands. Whilst you may not have worked in a Group model before, you will have some appreciation of both its benefits and complexities.


We are an aspirational leadership team committed to innovation and transformation and we need a Director of People who can support us on our continuing journey to make the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals an inclusive, fulfilling, and fantastic place to work.


This opportunity may suit someone who is already a Director of People or an experienced and accomplished Deputy Director with the right skills.

Picture the scene. It’s 2015. A young(ish) Pete Marshall, top of his recruitment game, a top performer. But something didn’t feel right, something had to change.
