Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

Could you provide an operational people management service to deliver recruitment and retention, managing complex employee relations cases, workforce planning, absence, succession, talent and change?

The HR Operational team will appreciate your leadership, support and technical expertise as they work closely with Portfolio Directors and their Senior Management Teams to build capability and develop approaches that achieve strategic objectives. You will support the HR Business Partners in their roles advising management on all matters relating to people management, following current HR policies and procedures, employment law and best practice. You will offer guidance on people practices and strategic workforce planning including restructures, succession planning and talent management. Working to the Head of HR and Organisational Development, you will also be responsible for aspects of leading on strategic and project activity as it arises, deputising for the Head of HR and OD as required.

As an HR ambassador you will drive people management strategy, including coaching and mentoring, leadership, capability and performance, employee engagement, and creating a high performing, inclusive and learning culture, meeting relevant HR KPIs.

Qualified to CIPD Level 7, or equivalent attainment or experience, you have Chartered MCIPD or Chartered FCIPD or equivalent member/registration status or are willing to obtain it. We will expect evidence of further professional development since obtaining CIPD status, plus experience of managing the HR function/service area and a medium size team with varying experience levels.

With successful leadership and coaching of a team of HR professionals, you will have delivered successful Workforce Planning and Organisational Development interventions for your business areas and have solid experience and working knowledge of complex employee relations and employee development issues. Up to speed on UK employment law, you have a background in analysing and interpreting information to develop solutions or solve problems, having managed budgets, resources and funding.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena.  As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
