Together we get things done – one team, delivering for Sheffield
Sheffield, an extraordinary city with a rich history and a promising future, stands as the fourth largest in England and is teeming with life, vibrancy, and exceptional talent. With a population of over 600,000, its residents are renowned for their warm and hospitable nature, fostering a strong sense of community. Sheffield is adorned with remarkable environmental, cultural, sporting, and heritage treasures, taking immense pride in its distinction as the greenest city in the UK, while being the only one to encompass a national park within its limits.
Sheffield City Council, like other councils has challenges, but we are determined to tackle them head-on. With a fresh and innovative approach, we have created a new 4-year council plan which is a significant milestone in the development of our organisation. It sets out a clear and positive statement of what we want to achieve for Sheffield over the coming four years and sets the high-level policy direction for the whole organisation which will then be delivered through our key strategies, service plans and the huge contributions that our staff make to the city every day. By actively involving the city's leaders and residents, we have ensured that the plan caters to the diverse needs and aspirations of our communities and businesses, fostering a true sense of partnership and inclusivity.
The People team are integral to driving the success of our Council Plan, development initiatives, and the Future Sheffield transformation programme. By providing an exceptional operational and delivery framework, we play a vital role in helping the Council be the best it can be. To ensure continued success, we are now seeking a highly capable Head of Employee Engagement and Inclusion to join our team.
About the role
We are bold enough to say that this is a brilliant new role within our People and Organisational Culture team and are very excited about how this role will embed and deliver employee engagement, inclusion and well being across Sheffield City Council. We are committed to delivering excellence of people practice across the service and the wider council, which is why we have adapted our structure and created this new role, to oversee reward and recognition, equality, diversity, inclusion, health and wellbeing and employee engagement services.
We have already made some great progress in employee wellbeing and inclusion but recognise we need to do more in engagement, understanding how employees connect with the organisation and ensuring the value of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is truly embedded throughout the council.
This role will be critical in developing a structure on how we work together to understand the diverse needs of our employees, make recommendations and put plans in place to promote amazing engagement and ensure our peoples voices are heard.
This role also requires you to get stuck in with implementing and embedding the Health and Well Being Strategy for employees as well as be responsible for updating our employee recognition and benefits programme to ensure it aligns with the preferences of our employees and remains appealing and competitive.
Most of all, you will have the freedom to bring all your creative ideas on how we deliver this service to the table.

Using your experience of managing at a senior-level in cross-functional teams you will be driving corporate objectives and handle tasks such as working with employee networks, producing, briefings, presentations, and managing diverse teams collaboratively. It is essential to have a proven ability to lead change, motivate employees, and solve problems effectively while achieving successful outcomes.
