Main duties & Responsibilities
The HR Manager supports senior leaders and People Managers by aligning HR strategies with business goals. Key responsibilities include policy development, talent management, employee relations, and wellbeing, while ensuring legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with leadership to identify business needs and translate them into effective HR solutions.
- Advise on employee relations, performance management, and organizational development.
- Implement and monitor talent acquisition, retention, and development strategies.
- Support change management initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions during restructuring or other business changes.
- Utilise HR data and metrics to drive decision-making and provide insights on workforce trends.
Key Accountabilities:
- Policy & Compliance: Review and update HR policies and handbooks to reflect best practices and legal standards. Participate in the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Working Group.
- Talent Management: Support recruitment, succession planning, retention strategies, and performance management processes.
- Employee Relations: Manage casework (e.g. performance, disciplinary), grievances, and staff surveys.
- Reward & Remuneration: Develop pay and benefits strategies, support pay reviews, and benchmark roles.
- Learning & Development (L&D): Lead L&D initiatives, oversee eLearning, and support managers with employee development.
- Onboarding & Offboarding: Manage staff onboarding and offboarding, including exit interviews.
- Wellbeing: Support mental health initiatives and maintain wellbeing resources.
Person Specification
Location: London, SW1 (STEP operates a Flexible Working Policy. A requirement for this role would be at least 2 or 3 days in the office)
Experience
Essential:
- Significant prior experience in a generalist management or partner HR role, with considerable autonomy
- Proven track record of successfully implementing new processes, policies and procedures in line with organisational growth
- Experience in managing recruitment and selection processes
- Experience of partnering with managers to solve complex HR challenges
- Experience of working with remote / dispersed teams
Skills, Abilities & Attributes
- Chartered Member CIPD (or equivalent professional experience)
- Sound understanding of UK employment law and HR issues impacting smaller organisations
- Strong organisational skills - capable of handling multiple projects / tasks and ability to meet deadlines, logically tackle problems and set priorities
- Customer focus – strong interpersonal skills
- Have an aptitude for planning, co-ordinating and time management
- Discretion and confidentiality
- Excellent IT skills, in particular in the use of Microsoft Office 365 suite and MS Outlook
